BEST PLUMBING ESTIMATING SOFTWARE GUIDE

Best Plumbing Estimating Software Compared

FieldEdge, FieldPulse, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, and Jobber all create estimates inside a broader field-service workflow, but they differ sharply once a plumbing contractor needs more than a price and signature. We tested service repairs, water heaters, repipes, sewer work, fixture packages, flat-rate pricing, mobile approvals, financing, and unsold-estimate follow-up on desktop and mobile, then checked the observed behavior against current first-party documentation.

How We Tested

In August 2026, the Tools in the Wild editorial team tested FieldEdge, FieldPulse, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, and Jobber using trial and paid accounts. On desktop and mobile, we ran each platform through the same plumbing estimating scenarios: quoting a service repair; building Good-Better-Best water-heater, repipe, and sewer options; adding labor, materials, access conditions, permits, discounts, and financing; presenting the proposal; collecting approval; converting accepted work; and following up on an unsold replacement. We documented each workflow with screenshots and written notes, then conducted an in-depth review of current vendor help centers, trade pages, product guides, mobile documentation, integration pages, pricing pages, and recent updates. This comparison concentrates on the differences that change daily execution – speed, estimate depth, pricing control, presentation, approval, downstream handoff, and operational fit – instead of repeating baseline quoting features. Vendors neither reviewed the article nor influenced its conclusions. Read our full editorial methodology.

Our Verdict

The best plumbing estimating software depends on the estimating model.

Housecall Pro and Jobber are the strongest fits when the work is usually a faucet, toilet, drain, or leak-repair quote and the priority is getting an accurate, presentable quote in front of the customer quickly.

FieldPulse is the better choice when estimates are more advanced. Say a water heater, filtration system, repipe, sewer repair, or multi-fixture project with access and restoration assumptions needs options, add-ons, grouped or hidden detail, formulas, reusable contracts, multiple presentation styles, material planning, and more flexible status control.

FieldEdge makes the most sense when a multi-truck service company wants a managed flat-rate system and real-time QuickBooks connection more than it wants to design every part of the estimate workflow.

ServiceTitan is the clearest fit for a larger contractor that wants estimating governed across business units, roles, pricebooks, proposal templates, follow-up, purchasing, job costing, and reporting. It also covers a wider mix of service and project work than the simpler platforms, but that depth comes with the highest implementation burden.

BUILD A PLUMBING ESTIMATE FROM THE SERVICE CALL OR OPPORTUNITY

The decision: how much friction comes before the first priced line item?
The first estimate screen determines whether a technician can quote while the customer is still engaged. For a faucet, toilet, drain, or leak-repair quote, speed matters most. For a water heater, filtration system, repipe, sewer repair, or multi-fixture project with access and restoration assumptions, the estimator also needs the right customer and property, prior work, related job or project, schedule, salesperson, lead source, scope, and supporting files. A fast interface that loses context creates rework; a detailed interface that takes too long can delay the quote.

Test Results

Housecall Pro was the simplest desktop starting point, and Jobber was the quickest mobile experience. FieldPulse offered the most setup control and could link the estimate to an existing job or project, but it asked for more decisions. ServiceTitan is better for large operations because templates, job context, roles, and pricebook access can be governed centrally. FieldEdge is strongest when the quote should begin from a standardized flat-rate service workflow.

### What we compared

  • Customer search by name, phone, email, and address
  • Estimate templates, one-off line items, and saved pricebook items
  • Job, project, schedule, technician, lead-source, and file context
  • Desktop and mobile creation paths

How We Evaluated

We compared customer search, templates, one-off and saved items, linked jobs and projects, scheduling context, attachments, lead data, and desktop-versus-mobile setup speed.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best for a standardized service pricebook: FieldEdge emphasizes customer history, dispatch, flat-rate pricing, and quotes within the same operating system. It suits a repeatable service operation; buyers with complex preconstruction data should validate the office-estimating path separately.

FieldPulse - best for linked and configurable records: FieldPulse could create from the customer, estimate list, job, or project and carry notes, tags, contracts, files, purchase-order items, options, add-ons, fees, and workflow status. It is the most flexible start, but not the shortest.

Housecall Pro - best for fast desktop setup: Housecall Pro let us search broadly, select the customer, add one-off or pricebook items, schedule, assign, attach a checklist or file, and continue without much navigation. Its current estimate guide confirms the web and mobile paths.

ServiceTitan - best for governed large-team setup: ServiceTitan links the estimate to the job and pricebook, while office configuration controls templates and field permissions. That reduces improvisation across a large team but creates implementation work before the first estimate is ever built.

Jobber - best for fast mobile creation: Jobber's mobile quick action and separate, focused screens made a new quote easy to build. Search included address context, which reduced wrong-property selection.

PRICE MATERIALS, LABOR & OVERHEAD

The decision: does the platform protect margin or only calculate a selling total?
An estimate can look accurate while still losing money. Plumbing contractors need current costs, repeatable labor assumptions, markup or margin controls, customer-safe presentation, and a way to compare the estimate with actual job performance. Quantity calculation also matters when scope depends on pipe length, fitting counts, fixture quantities, waste factors, or labor multipliers.

Test Results

FieldPulse provided the most direct calculation control in the estimate itself. FieldEdge is the best fit when the company wants managed flat-rate content instead of maintaining every item internally. ServiceTitan offers the strongest large-operation pricebook governance and budget-to-actual connection. Housecall Pro gives a practical cost and profit view on desktop and can add managed flat-rate content through Profit Rhino. Jobber keeps markup and estimated margin simple but is less detailed and more desktop-centered.

How We Evaluated

We compared pricebooks, managed content, item cost, markup, margin, formulas, labor and overhead, commissions, fees, discounts, permits, subcontractors, and the mobile limits on financial detail.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best managed flat-rate model: FieldEdge Flat Rate is the clearest managed-content option in this comparison. The tradeoff is less transparency into the public workflow and a buying process that requires a demo and quote.

FieldPulse - best for formulas, cost basis, and configurable margin: FieldPulse supports item cost, price, markup or margin, discounts, surcharges, credit-card fees, commissions, and Formula-Based Quantities. The job-costing workflow compares projected revenue, cost, and margin with actual results.

Housecall Pro - best simple cost-and-profit check: Housecall Pro calculated cost and profit cleanly in our desktop test and includes job costing in its published plans. Profit Rhino adds a managed, trade-specific flat-rate pricebook for a separate monthly fee.

ServiceTitan - best for pricebook governance at scale: ServiceTitan ties estimates to a centralized pricebook, supplier-oriented content, purchasing, labor, job costing, projects, and reporting. Pricebook Pro is an optional Pro product, so managed content and automated updates should be verified in the package.

Jobber - best for straightforward markup and margin: Jobber's markup-on-quotes workflow calculates selling price and estimated margin while keeping cost hidden from the client. It is easy to understand, but it does not match FieldPulse formulas or ServiceTitan's broader pricebook and project controls.

FieldEdge Flat Rate is the clearest managed-content option in this comparison. The tradeoff is less transparency into the public workflow and a buying process that requires a demo and quote.

Pros

Limitations

FieldPulse supports item cost, price, markup or margin, discounts, surcharges, credit-card fees, commissions, and Formula-Based Quantities. The job-costing workflow compares projected revenue, cost, and margin with actual results. That combination is the deepest for a contractor that wants to own the logic.

Pros

Limitations

Housecall Pro calculated cost and profit cleanly in our desktop test and includes job costing in its published plans. Profit Rhino adds a managed, trade-specific flat-rate pricebook for a separate monthly fee. Mobile presentation remains simpler than the back-office profitability view.

Pros

Limitations

ServiceTitan ties estimates to a centralized pricebook, supplier-oriented content, purchasing, labor, job costing, projects, and reporting. Pricebook Pro is an optional Pro product, so managed content and automated updates should be verified in the package.

Pros

Limitations

Jobber’s markup-on-quotes workflow calculates selling price and estimated margin while keeping cost hidden from the client. It is easy to understand, but it does not match FieldPulse formulas or ServiceTitan’s broader pricebook and project controls.

Pros

Limitations

PRESENT REPAIR, REPLACEMENT, UPGRADES & FINANCING

The decision: are choices separate solutions or just optional line items?
Good-Better-Best works best when each choice is a coherent solution with a clear scope and total. Optional add-ons solve a different problem: they let the customer add or remove individual upgrades. Software that treats both concepts as one loose list can make the price unclear or produce the wrong downstream job scope.

Test Results

FieldPulse was the strongest overall because it separates estimate options from add-on options and can combine those with bundles, groupings, and customer-visibility controls. Housecall Pro provided the fastest side-by-side presentation. ServiceTitan delivered the most governed template model for a large sales organization. FieldEdge offers a standardized Proposal Pro experience but gates it by package. Jobber’s optional items are easy for a small team, but they are not a full option-and-add-on architecture.

How We Evaluated

We compared mutually exclusive options, selectable add-ons, Good-Better-Best presentation, bundles, groupings, customer visibility, live totals, managed proposal content, and plan restrictions.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best standardized managed presentation: FieldEdge Proposal Pro presents Good-Better-Best and budget options and syncs them into the FieldEdge workflow. Premier includes multi-option quotes, but the full Proposal Pro layer is included only with Elite or separately priced.

FieldPulse - best option and add-on architecture: The FieldPulse options and add-ons workflow allows multiple named choices and separate selectable add-ons with a running total. Bundles and groupings reduce missed items and control how much internal detail reaches the customer.

Housecall Pro - best fast side-by-side selling: Housecall Pro supports multi-option estimates and a visual proposal view on web and mobile. Current documentation also allows more than one approved option when configured.

ServiceTitan - best controlled template selling: ServiceTitan proposal templates group prebuilt estimates into Good-Better-Best packages. This is valuable when management wants technicians to sell approved assemblies rather than create ad hoc combinations in the field.

Jobber - best simple customer-selectable extras: Jobber optional line items can be preselected, recommended, or left for the customer to add. That is useful for upgrades, but contractors should not confuse it with separate, mutually exclusive solution packages.

CREATE AND REVISE ESTIMATES ON MOBILE

The decision: does mobile support the real estimate or only customer presentation?
Mobile depth matters when technicians need to change quantity, add a one-off item, check scope, present options, collect a signature, or continue without reliable signal. A product can advertise a mobile app while still reserving cost analysis, templates, permissions, or administration for desktop.

Test Results

Jobber was fastest for a simple mobile quote. FieldPulse offered the deepest documented offline estimate workflow and the closest mobile parity, although its richer interface required more taps. Housecall Pro was clean for building and presenting standard estimates. ServiceTitan provides strong field capabilities under administrator-controlled permissions. FieldEdge supports mobile quotes and price presentation, but included mobile-license counts affect rollout.

How We Evaluated

We compared mobile creation, revision, preview, signature, customer presentation, item entry, cost visibility, permissions, offline behavior, desktop-only configuration, and included mobile licenses.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best mobile extension of a managed pricebook: FieldEdge equips technicians to quote and present pricing from the field, but the published plan includes only two, four, or six mobile licenses. A growing fleet should price every field user rather than compare package names alone.

FieldPulse - best offline estimate depth: FieldPulse explicitly supports cached estimate access, offline drafts, cached items and templates, status changes, and signatures on cached records. A new offline draft cannot be previewed, converted, or signed until reconnection, which is an important condition in the offline estimate documentation.

Housecall Pro - best simple mobile presentation: Housecall Pro can create, edit, send, and present estimates on mobile. Its mobile Sales Proposal Tool guide takes the technician from estimate options into presentation mode.

ServiceTitan - best permission-controlled field workflow: ServiceTitan technicians can create custom estimates or use proposal templates, present choices, and sell from the field. Current Field Mobile documentation lists required permissions for creating estimates, adding items, and seeing prices, and it notes that proposal templates require office setup.

Jobber - best mobile speed: Jobber's quick action, broad customer search, clean line-item selection, preview, text or email delivery, deposits, and Client Hub approval produced the shortest simple path in our test. Advanced text sections still have web-only constraints; for example, current documentation says text-only line items can be viewed but not added in the mobile app.

TURN THE ESTIMATE INTO A PERSUASIVE PLUMBING PROPOSAL

The decision: how much explanation must the proposal carry?
For a water heater, filtration system, repipe, sewer repair, or multi-fixture project with access and restoration assumptions, the customer is not buying line items alone. The proposal may need equipment photos, scope boundaries, access assumptions, restoration exclusions, warranty terms, reviews, and financing. A strong proposal explains why the scope and price make sense while keeping internal cost and unnecessary component detail hidden.

Test Results

FieldPulse was the strongest for a fully branded, content-rich proposal. Housecall Pro was simpler and faster to present. ServiceTitan was better when every salesperson must use approved templates and pricebook content. FieldEdge Proposal Pro provides a managed visual layer. Jobber now creates a polished customer document on Grow and Plus, but its contract and option structure is less deep than FieldPulse.

How We Evaluated

We compared scope sections, photos, equipment detail, cover pages, company content, reviews, warranties, contracts, terms, branding, customer-facing clarity, and what requires a higher plan or add-on.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best managed sales presentation: Proposal Pro standardizes visual Good-Better-Best and budget options, while the flat-rate pricebook supplies consistent service and equipment content. The main caveat is package access.

FieldPulse - best rich proposal builder: Dynamic Proposals can include cover, About Us, information pages, multiple offerings, photos, reviews, case studies, style controls, contracts, signatures, and mobile or desktop previews. Alternative company profiles can also switch branding for separate entities or locations.

Housecall Pro - best quick visual presentation: Housecall Pro's Sales Proposal Tool supports side-by-side options, images, option descriptions, attachments, visibility controls, and financing. It takes fewer steps to present than FieldPulse, but it is not as open-ended as a full content builder.

ServiceTitan - best standardized proposal content: ServiceTitan proposal templates ensure technicians present approved solutions tied to the pricebook. It suits a large sales organization that values consistency and permission control more than individual proposal design.

Jobber - best polished small-business document: Jobber's Advanced Quote Customization can add an introduction, header image, attachments, photo gallery, client message, and reviews. The review section depends on the Reviews add-on, and richer quote design is limited to selected plans.

COLLECT APPROVAL, SIGNATURE, DEPOSIT, AND FINANCING

The decision: what makes an estimate contractually and operationally ready?
A customer saying yes is not the same as a controlled approval. The record may need the selected option, add-ons, signature, deposit, financing choice, contract, change request, and version history before the office schedules work or orders equipment.

Test Results

FieldPulse provided the most flexible contract-and-signature setup. Jobber offered the cleanest small-business self-service approval in Client Hub. Housecall Pro connected proposal approval with scheduling and financing. ServiceTitan was strongest when permissions, follow-up, and downstream administration matter. FieldEdge supported on-the-spot proposal acceptance inside the managed sales workflow.

How We Evaluated

We compared option selection, signatures, reusable contracts, change requests, deposits, financing, version handling, technician permissions, and the point where an estimate becomes committed work.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best approval inside a managed service workflow: FieldEdge's proposal tools are designed for technicians to present and close at the job site, then keep the result tied to work orders and QuickBooks. Confirm signature, deposit, financing, and change-handling behavior for the selected package.

FieldPulse - best reusable contract control: FieldPulse can attach reusable contracts to estimates and collect signatures in the mobile app or by email. Its proposal and estimate options preserve the customer's selected solution and add-ons.

Housecall Pro - best connected approval and financing flow: Housecall Pro estimates and proposals can collect approval, use financing, and move into scheduling and dispatch. The tested flow was easy for straightforward work, although FieldPulse provides richer reusable contract content.

ServiceTitan - best controlled sale across roles: ServiceTitan connects the customer's selected estimate to technician sale, office follow-up, deposits, financing, purchasing, and job execution. Roles and configuration determine which actions are available.

Jobber - best straightforward Client Hub approval: Jobber customers can view the quote, select optional items, request changes, sign, and pay a required deposit in Client Hub. Editing key fields on an approved quote removes the current signature and stores the previous signed version as an internal PDF note, a useful control documented in quote approvals.

MOVE SOLD WORK INTO SCHEDULING, MATERIALS, PURCHASING, AND INVOICING

The decision: what survives after the estimate is accepted?
The operational handoff should preserve selected options, line items, quantities, price, deposit, scope, and customer approval. For plumbing work, the team may also need pipe, fittings, valves, fixtures, water heaters, venting, supports, connectors, and permit items. Re-entering the estimate into a job, purchase order, or invoice creates errors before work starts.

Test Results

ServiceTitan offered the strongest large-operation handoff into purchasing, projects, job costing, invoicing, and accounting. FieldPulse was the most flexible for small and midsize companies because estimates can connect to jobs, projects, material lists, purchase-order items, invoices, and custom workflows. FieldEdge’s key advantage is QuickBooks continuity. Housecall Pro and Jobber provided simpler conversions that suit shorter service workflows.

How We Evaluated

We compared estimate-to-job and invoice conversion, selected-option preservation, scheduling, materials lists, purchase orders, project structure, job costing, accounting sync, deposits, and re-entry risk.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best QuickBooks-centered handoff: FieldEdge's service model keeps quote, work order, invoice, payment, and QuickBooks data together. This reduces double entry for an established accounting-centered shop, but package and inventory dependencies should be demonstrated with the company's actual workflow.

FieldPulse - best configurable handoff: FieldPulse can link an estimate to a job or project, build material lists, generate purchase-order items by vendor, preserve or convert the estimate, and compare projected with actual performance. That is deeper than Housecall Pro or Jobber for a growing company.

Housecall Pro - best simple estimate-to-job execution: Housecall Pro connects the estimate with scheduling, assignment, checklists, job, invoice, payment, and job costing. It is faster for straightforward service work than a project-heavy system, but material planning and purchase control are not as deep as FieldPulse or ServiceTitan.

ServiceTitan - best for purchasing and project control: ServiceTitan estimates connect to the pricebook, purchasing, job costing, projects, invoicing, and accounting. For construction work, a takeoff bill of materials can enter this downstream flow even though takeoff itself occurs elsewhere.

Jobber - best small-team conversion: Jobber converts the approved quote into a job, carrying selected optional items as regular job line items. One quote can create multiple jobs when the schedule needs to split the work.

FOLLOW UP ON UNSOLD ESTIMATES AND MEASURE PERFORMANCE

The decision: can the company distinguish a lost quote from a forgotten quote?
Unsold estimates need an owner, status, next action, reminder, and result. Managers also need conversion rate, salesperson performance, estimated value, sold value, and margin context. A generic sent/open/approved status is enough for a solo operator but not for a multi-location sales organization.

Test Results

ServiceTitan provided the deepest enterprise follow-up and reporting. Housecall Pro’s Pipeline was the clearest visual follow-up board for a growing service team. FieldPulse gave administrators the most configurable estimate statuses and triggers. Jobber automated routine reminders and exposed quote metrics cleanly. FieldEdge handled lead tracking and reminders, with saved-report capacity changing by plan.

How We Evaluated

We compared estimate status, pipeline ownership, automated reminders, custom workflows, unsold-estimate follow-up, conversion reporting, salesperson performance, saved reports, and plan access.

How do the vendors compare?

FieldEdge - best follow-up inside an established service desk: FieldEdge includes lead tracking, reminders, automated alerts, and reporting, while prospect tracking begins with Premier. Select has no saved reports, Premier includes ten, and Elite offers unlimited saved reports.

FieldPulse - best custom estimate workflow: FieldPulse lets administrators define custom estimate and invoice statuses, communications, triggers, and reports while preserving QuickBooks compatibility. It is useful when plumbing estimates pass through site review, technical approval, financing, permit, or purchasing stages.

Housecall Pro - best straightforward Pipeline follow-up: Housecall Pro can move proposals into Pipeline and automate follow-up. That is easier to operate than ServiceTitan for a smaller team, though less configurable than FieldPulse's custom status model.

ServiceTitan - best enterprise follow-up: ServiceTitan captures unsold estimates for office follow-up and supports opportunity and estimate reporting. The workflow suits a call center or sales team with assigned follow-up responsibility, performance reporting, and multiple business units.

Jobber - best automated small-team reminders: Jobber can automate quote follow-ups and provides quote statuses, list metrics, reports, and salesperson performance on relevant plans. The lifecycle is easy to understand but less customizable than FieldPulse or ServiceTitan.

WHICH PLUMBING ESTIMATING SOFTWARE IS BEST?

The best plumbing estimating platform depends on whether the company needs a fast field quote, configurable estimate and proposal construction, managed flat-rate pricing tied to QuickBooks, or enterprise control over templates, projects, purchasing, and margin.

FINAL VERDICT

The best plumbing estimating software depends on the estimating model. Housecall Pro and Jobber are the strongest fits when the work is usually a faucet, toilet, drain, or leak-repair quote and the priority is getting an accurate, presentable quote in front of the customer quickly. FieldPulse is the better choice when an estimate for a water heater, filtration system, repipe, sewer repair, or multi-fixture project with access and restoration assumptions needs options, add-ons, grouped or hidden detail, formulas, reusable contracts, multiple presentation styles, material planning, and more flexible status control.

FieldEdge makes the most sense when a multi-truck service company wants a managed flat-rate system and real-time QuickBooks connection more than it wants to design every part of the estimate workflow. FieldEdge emphasizes flat-rate presentation and multiple service or equipment options for plumbing teams; buyers should confirm the exact pricebook update process and proposal package during the demo. The FieldEdge plumbing price-presentation guidance should be included in the product demo.

For plan-based commercial plumbing bids, these all-in-one platforms should not automatically be treated as direct digital takeoff tools. ServiceTitan’s estimating guidance still describes performing takeoff in a dedicated tool or spreadsheet before the quantities enter the connected estimating and project workflow. See ServiceTitan’s plumbing takeoff and estimating guidance.

The packaging caveat is material. FieldEdge reserves multi-option quotes for Premier and Elite and includes Proposal Pro with Elite. Housecall Pro includes its full visual Sales Proposal Tool with Max, although it can be added or trialed in other cases. Jobber’s richer quote design and optional items sit on Grow and Plus. FieldPulse and ServiceTitan require custom quotes, and advanced proposal, pricebook, financing, or project functions may be separately enabled.

The most important question is not which platform has the longest feature list. It is whether the company needs a fast field quote, a configurable estimate and proposal system, managed trade pricing tied to QuickBooks, or enterprise control over sales, purchasing, projects, and margin.

BEST SOFTWARE BY NEED

  • FieldEdge: Choose FieldEdge for established service operations that want technicians quoting from a standardized pricebook while customer, dispatch, invoice, payment, and accounting data stay connected. Main caveat: Select supports single-option quotes; multi-option quotes begin with Premier, and Proposal Pro is included with Elite or sold separately on lower tiers.
  • FieldPulse: Choose FieldPulse for small and midsize contractors that need more than a quick quote, including configurable options, add-ons, bundled assemblies, formulas, contracts, purchase planning, and detailed customer presentation. Main caveat: The interface is denser than Housecall Pro or Jobber, and the deeper workflow takes more setup and training. Dynamic Proposals is part of the Sales Suite add-on.
  • Housecall Pro: Choose Housecall Pro for solo operators and growing service teams that want to find a customer, add a one-off or pricebook item, schedule and assign the work, present options, and move to approval with minimal friction. Main caveat: Housecall Pro offers less flexibility than advanced estimating platforms for highly customized pricing and contract workflows. While costs and job-costing summaries are available to authorized mobile users, more advanced flat-rate pricing setup and cost management are handled on the web.
  • ServiceTitan: Choose ServiceTitan for midsize, multi-location, and enterprise contractors with dedicated call-center, sales, purchasing, project, finance, and management roles that need controlled templates, permissions, follow-up, and reporting. Main caveat: ServiceTitan requires the most implementation and administration in this comparison. Mobile estimate creation depends on office setup and permissions, and plan-based construction takeoff remains a separate workflow.
  • Jobber: Choose Jobber for solo and small plumbing contractors that need a clean quote-to-job workflow, customer approval, deposits, and automated follow-up without a lengthy implementation. Main caveat: Jobber does not provide FieldPulse-style estimate options, formula-based quantities, line-item bundles and groupings, or the same purchasing and enterprise controls as FieldPulse or ServiceTitan.

FieldEdge builds quotes inside a service-management and accounting workflow. Technicians pull from a flat-rate pricebook, present the work, and keep the quote connected to customer history, dispatch, invoice, payment, and QuickBooks records. That model suits a mature service operation that wants consistency across trucks more than a highly customized proposal builder.

The current FieldEdge pricing matrix makes the package boundary clear: Select includes basic agreements and single-option quotes, Premier adds multi-option quotes, and Elite includes Proposal Pro. Proposal Pro can also be priced separately for lower tiers. FieldEdge describes it as a standardized Good-Better-Best and budget presentation layer, while FieldEdge Flat Rate supplies the equipment and repair database.

Choose FieldEdge for established service operations that want technicians quoting from a standardized pricebook while customer, dispatch, invoice, payment, and accounting data stay connected. Main caveat: Select supports single-option quotes; multi-option quotes begin with Premier, and Proposal Pro is included with Elite or sold separately on lower tiers.

Pros

Limitations

FieldPulse gave us the most ways to structure an estimate. A contractor can start from an estimate template, add pricebook items or bundles, group line items, hide selected names or prices, create multiple options, offer add-ons, attach files, include notes, request a signature, and convert the accepted record to an invoice. The current estimate creation guide also documents related jobs and projects, purchase-order items, markup or margin controls, fees, discounts, presentation, and conversion.

The deeper layer is the differentiator. Formula-Based Quantities can calculate pipe length, fitting counts, fixture quantities, waste factors, or labor multipliers on mobile or desktop. Dynamic Proposals add cover pages, About Us content, photos, reviews, case studies, styling, contracts, signatures, and Good-Better-Best variants. In our test, that flexibility made FieldPulse substantially more capable than Housecall Pro or Jobber for complicated proposals, but it also required more taps and more setup.

Choose FieldPulse for small and midsize contractors that need more than a quick quote, including configurable options, add-ons, bundled assemblies, formulas, contracts, purchase planning, and detailed customer presentation. Main caveat: The interface is denser than Housecall Pro or Jobber, and the deeper workflow takes more setup and training. Dynamic Proposals belongs to the Sales Suite feature area rather than being safe to assume in every account.

Pros

Limitations

Housecall Pro was the fastest desktop workflow in our test for finding a customer, adding a straightforward estimate, scheduling and assigning the work, and presenting it. Search accepted name, email, phone, or address, and the estimate could include a one-off line item without forcing it into the pricebook. The current estimate creation guide documents web and mobile creation, customer selection, one-off items, scheduling, dispatch, checklists, attachments, fields, tags, lead source, options, and approval settings.

For larger replacement or project conversations, the Sales Proposal Tool presents estimate options side by side on web or mobile and supports attachments, expiration, customer-visibility controls, financing, and Pipeline follow-up. The presentation was quicker to launch than FieldPulse Dynamic Proposals, but it provided less control over formulas, rich contracts, bundled estimate structure, and custom estimate states.

Choose Housecall Pro for solo operators and growing service teams that want to find a customer, add a one-off or pricebook item, schedule and assign the work, present options, and move to approval with minimal friction. Main caveat: Housecall Pro gives less control over formulas, bundles, grouping, contracts, and custom estimate workflows than FieldPulse. We also found its detailed cost and profit view more office-oriented than its mobile presentation flow.

Pros

Limitations

ServiceTitan separates quick field proposals from detailed office estimates and project budgets. Field technicians can use proposal templates and the pricebook to present Good-Better-Best options, while office users or project teams can build more detailed line-item estimates and track budgets. The proposal-template documentation explains how prebuilt options are grouped for mobile selling, and the mobile estimate guide covers custom estimates, notes, duplication, templates, presentation, and sale.

The depth is operational rather than decorative. Estimate data can feed purchasing, job costing, projects, invoices, accounting, and reports. Unsold estimates enter a formal follow-up workflow instead of relying on an individual technician’s reminders. That structure is the strongest fit for multiple business units and specialized roles, but it depends on careful pricebook setup, permissions, templates, and implementation ownership.

Choose ServiceTitan for midsize, multi-location, and enterprise contractors with dedicated call-center, sales, purchasing, project, finance, and management roles that need controlled templates, permissions, follow-up, and reporting. Main caveat: ServiceTitan requires the most implementation and administration in this comparison. Mobile estimate creation depends on office setup and permissions, and plan-based construction takeoff remains a separate workflow.

Pros

Limitations

Jobber calls the record a quote by default, although terminology can be adjusted. Its mobile workflow was the fastest in our test: find a client by name, email, phone, or address; select products and services; add a one-off line item; apply tax, discount, or deposit; preview the customer view; and send by text or email. The current Jobber mobile quote guide documents saved and one-off items, optional items, images on select plans, discounts, tax, deposits, preview, text or email delivery, and Client Hub interaction.

Jobber has improved since the older notes. Customers can now approve with a native signature, request changes, and pay a deposit through quote approvals. Advanced Quote Customization and reusable quote templates add visual sections, files, images, reviews, introductions, and terms on select plans. The result is polished and simple, but not as structurally deep as FieldPulse.

Choose Jobber for solo and small plumbing contractors that need a clean quote-to-job workflow, customer approval, deposits, and automated follow-up without a lengthy implementation. Main caveat: Jobber does not provide FieldPulse-style estimate options, formula-based quantities, line-item bundles and groupings, or the same purchasing and enterprise controls as FieldPulse or ServiceTitan.

PLUMBING ESTIMATING SOFTWARE FAQS

Plumbing estimating software helps contractors calculate, present, send, approve, and track the expected scope and price of plumbing work. The five products in this comparison also connect estimates to customer records, scheduling, field work, invoicing, payments, and reporting. They differ from dedicated construction takeoff tools because their main advantage is operational continuity after the customer accepts, not measurement from plans.

FieldPulse is the best fit for complex and configurable estimates; Housecall Pro is the strongest for fast service quotes; ServiceTitan is best for large organizations and mixed service/project operations; FieldEdge fits established QuickBooks-centered service companies that want managed flat-rate pricing; and Jobber is the clearest choice for solo operators and small teams. The right answer depends on workflow, package, and need for takeoff or project control.

FieldPulse is better when the estimate needs formulas, bundles, groupings, separate options and add-ons, reusable contracts, offline work, custom statuses, or a highly branded proposal. Housecall Pro is better when technicians mostly quote repeatable service work and need the shortest path from customer search to schedule, estimate, presentation, and approval. The full Housecall Pro Sales Proposal Tool is included with Max or separately enabled, while FieldPulse Dynamic Proposals belongs to its Sales Suite area.

Jobber and Housecall Pro are the easiest starting points for solo operators and small teams. FieldPulse suits small and midsize contractors whose estimate structure has outgrown a simple quote. FieldEdge fits established multi-truck service companies that depend on QuickBooks and managed flat-rate pricing. ServiceTitan is the strongest enterprise fit because it adds governed templates, permissions, purchasing, follow-up, project controls, job costing, and reporting, with a much larger implementation commitment.

Yes. All five products support mobile estimating or presentation, but the depth differs. Jobber was fastest for a simple mobile quote. Housecall Pro offered a clean mobile estimate and proposal flow. FieldPulse provided the deepest documented offline support, including cached records and templates, while some actions on a new offline draft wait for reconnection. ServiceTitan requires the appropriate setup and field permissions. FieldEdge mobile access is also limited by the number of licenses included in the package.

Yes, but the model matters. FieldPulse separates full estimate options from selectable add-ons and can combine them with bundles and groupings. Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, and FieldEdge provide dedicated multi-option or Good-Better-Best proposal workflows, subject to package or configuration. Jobber uses optional line items that can be recommended or preselected; this works for upgrades but is not the same as a dedicated set of mutually exclusive proposal options.

No. FieldEdge multi-option quotes start with Premier and Proposal Pro is included with Elite. Housecall Pro includes the Sales Proposal Tool with Max, although other accounts may add or trial it. Jobber places optional items and richer quote design on Grow and Plus. FieldPulse and ServiceTitan use quote-based packaging, and Sales Suite, Pricebook Pro, financing, project, or other advanced capabilities may require separate enablement. Always verify current pricing pages and the written order form.

Not automatically. They are strongest at service estimates, replacement proposals, customer approval, and the downstream operating workflow. For plan-based commercial plumbing bids, these all-in-one platforms should not automatically be treated as direct digital takeoff tools. ServiceTitan's estimating guidance still describes performing takeoff in a dedicated tool or spreadsheet before the quantities enter the connected estimating and project workflow. A contractor that bids from plans should test the exact takeoff, import, alternates, change-order, purchasing, job-cost, progress-billing, and accounting workflow rather than assuming an all-in-one field-service platform performs every estimating step.
