### How We Tested

---

The Tools in the Wild editorial team tested Housecall Pro, FieldPulse, and Jobber in July 2026 using trial and paid accounts. We completed the same HVAC service-agreement workflows in each product on both desktop and iPhone, documented our findings with screenshots and written notes, and checked factual claims against official vendor documentation. Rather than cataloging features shared by all three platforms, we focused on differences in workflow depth, usability, customization, and operational fit. Because Jobber lacked a built-in maintenance agreement feature, it was not included in the comparison as it is not recommended. For each product, we had full access to all features and permissions through a trial account. Vendors did not review this article or influence its conclusions. ### Our Verdict

---

**Housecall Pro** is the best overall HVAC service agreement software for residential contractors because it makes plan setup, discounts, scheduling, and customer acceptance straightforward.

**FieldPulse** is the better fit for complex operations that need deeper equipment history, reporting, warranties, and custom workflows.

**Jobber** lacks doesn’t have a maintenance agreement feature. It can approximate parts of the workflow with recurring jobs, automatic payments, and contract integrations, but agreement sales, status tracking, renewals, benefits, and reporting are less integrated.

### Which HVAC service agreement software is best by use case?

---

| Software | Best fit | Why it stands out | Main caveat |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Housecall Pro | Residential HVAC memberships and simple maintenance plans | Simplest guided workflow for selling plans, applying member discounts, scheduling included visits, and checking agreement status. | Less reporting flexibility and equipment-history depth than FieldPulse |
| FieldPulse | Operationally complex HVAC teams with equipment-heavy workflows | Stronger asset records, custom fields, warranty tracking, reporting flexibility, and field-workflow depth | More setup and fewer maintenance agreement features optimized for the customer experience. |
| Jobber | Not recommended. Jobber lacks a true maintenance agreement although it may support some workflows | Supports simple recurring appointments but not maintenance agreements | Not the best fit for dedicated HVAC maintenance agreements. |

## How do technicians sell HVAC maintenance plans in the field?

---

HVAC teams need software that helps them present maintenance agreements clearly, upsell add-ons, and identify sales opportunities.

### Test Results

Housecall Pro is the stronger overall option because it provides a more guided, customer-friendly sales process. Its dedicated plan pages make it easier for technicians to explain plan details, configure add-ons, and confirm agreement status during a customer interaction. FieldPulse is stronger for presenting tiered options to customers through its connected good-better-best feature. The reviewed documentation does not establish a ready-made customer report of people without agreements in either product, but it can easily be set up using custom fields.

Both products let teams present [maintenance agreements](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/work/maintenance-agreements) to customers, but they suit different sales workflows. Housecall Pro provides a stronger experience for technicians selling agreements and upselling add-ons in the field. FieldPulse is better designed for sending customers options, either from the field or office, so they can compare membership tiers.

FieldPulse can present multiple pricing or membership tiers side by side through Dynamic Proposals, a connected Sales Suite workflow that supports good-better-best offerings. Housecall Pro does not support a side-by-side comparison view although it supports multi-option estimates like FieldPulse. Rather than requiring users to build plans from scratch, Housecall Pro guides users through key setup details, including the number of included visits, the plan term, annual cost, discounts, and optional add-ons from which customers can choose.

FieldPulse does not provide a dedicated area for maintenance-agreement add-ons or discounts, so users must configure them elsewhere in the app, such as in estimates and on the Price Tiers page.

Housecall Pro makes plan status more immediately visible by displaying the plan name and dates beneath the customer’s service address. In FieldPulse, you have to scroll all the way to the far-right Maintenance Agreements tab on the customer profile and open it to view the details. However, there’s a workaround: you can customize customer profiles with custom fields or tags that display this information. Unlike Housecall Pro, you can use these tags or custom fields to [generate a report](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/raw-data-reporting-tutorials/maintenance-agreement-reports) showing which customers do not currently have a maintenance agreement.

### How We Evaluated

We evaluated the products using the following criteria:

- Can technicians present maintenance agreements to customers on mobile devices in the field, and can sales or administrative staff present them from the office?
- Can employees present different maintenance plan tiers side by side?
- Can customers select from available add-ons?
- Can employees see whether a customer has a maintenance agreement directly from the customer profile?
- Can users easily generate a report showing which customers do not have maintenance agreements?

### How do the vendors compare?

**Housecall Pro — Best for field sales and add-on upselling:** Dedicated maintenance agreement pages guide technicians through plan visits, terms, pricing, discounts, and add-ons, making it easier to present and sell plans in the field. Agreement status is also visible directly on the customer profile, supporting faster sales conversations.

**FieldPulse — Best for office-led tier comparisons and prospecting:** Side-by-side plan displays make it easier to compare tiered plans, while reporting helps identify customers without agreements. However, add-ons and agreement-status visibility require more manual setup, making the customer-facing sales process less streamlined.

Why Housecall Pro is the best choice for simple HVAC membership sales

What sales evidence supports Housecall Pro?
Housecall Pro provides a polished, customer-facing experience for presenting service plans, particularly for technicians selling agreements in the field. Dedicated plan pages clearly organize included visits, pricing, benefits, discounts, and optional add-ons, making it easier to explain plan value and identify upsell opportunities.Users can accept a plan on the customer’s behalf or email it to the customer for approval and payment, although presenting works best on desktop or mobile app. Housecall Pro also supports renewing plans and checking their status through its online booking portal.
Employees can also quickly confirm whether a customer has an active maintenance agreement because service plans appear directly under the address on customer profiles, both on desktop and mobile. This makes it easy to verify coverage—and identify a sales opportunity—without navigating through additional pages.
Unlike FieldPulse, Housecall Pro offers far fewer customization options for service plan reporting. This makes it harder to surface key information, such as which plans are nearing expiration or which customers do not yet have a maintenance agreement and may be good candidates for outreach. Housecall Pro can automate expiration reminders, but its reporting tools are significantly less flexible for identifying opportunities.
															Pros

Supports service-plan add-ons such as filter changes or multi-system coverage.

Customers can view and manage service plans in the online booking portal.

Technicians can sell, send, or take payment for a service plan through the mobile app. Housecall Pro also supports separate Custom Job Signatures on jobs, but the documented mobile service-plan flow does not include a plan-specific signature step.

Best fit when residential technicians need to explain and sell memberships quickly after installation or repair.

					Cons

Cannot present plans side by side for comparison.

Cannot generate a report showing which customers do not have maintenance agreements.

Customers cannot select add-ons themselves when a plan is sent for acceptance.

Why FieldPulse is stronger for comparing service plans

					What sales evidence supports FieldPulse?
FieldPulse’s maintenance-agreement interface is geared toward administration. It is better suited to setting up plans, tracking agreement details, and managing customers from the office than to quickly presenting and selling agreements in the field.
However, FieldPulse offers a strong customer-facing sales tool through its variant proposals. These proposals allow users to present tiered maintenance agreement options side by side, with each option including an image, price, footnote, and customizable text that describes the plan’s benefits. This format makes it easy for customers to compare plans and understand the differences between tiers, which can support upselling. The closest alternative in Housecall Pro is Multi-Option Estimates, which FieldPulse also offers.
FieldPulse also offers significantly more robust reporting, giving office staff greater flexibility to track agreement performance, identify plans nearing expiration, and find customers who do not yet have a maintenance agreement. This makes it easier to manage renewals, target outreach, and uncover new sales opportunities.
FieldPulse does not provide the same dedicated expiration-and-renewal flow as Housecall Pro’s Service Plan Renewals. In our testing, FieldPulse renewal workflows depended more heavily on configuration. The official documentation does show automatic service reminders, recurring billing settings, and price tiers that can automatically apply customer-specific discounts as related configuration paths.
Unlike Housecall Pro, FieldPulse does not allow customers to view or renew maintenance agreements through its customer portal.
					Pros

										Supports side-by-side maintenance agreement comparisons.

Robust, customizable reporting supports sales outreach.

					Cons

Lacks dedicated, customer-facing maintenance-agreement sales pages.

Customer profiles do not readily display agreement status. Users must open the Maintenance Agreements tab on the far right or rely on workarounds such as tags, custom fields, or price tiers.

No maintenance-agreement add-ons; add-ons must be stored in Pricebooks and attached to estimates.

Requires more manual configuration: several useful workflows depend on custom fields, tags, pricing tiers, and recurring billing settings rather than built-in automation.

Provides limited customer access: customers cannot review maintenance agreements through the customer portal.

## How does HVAC service agreement software apply member discounts automatically?

---

HVAC service agreements often include discounts on repairs, equipment, estimates, or invoices. The strongest software connects those discounts directly to the customer’s plan and streamlines invoicing.

### Test Results

Housecall Pro is the strongest option for simple automatic HVAC member discounts because [discounts configured](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/6395181-add-a-service-plan-discount) within a service plan can be applied directly to eligible jobs. FieldPulse can also support [member pricing through its Price Tiers feature](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/customers/price-tiers), which offers more advanced options, but the discount must be configured separately and is not directly connected to the maintenance agreement. As a result, Housecall Pro requires less setup and effort to apply discounts.

### How We Evaluated

We evaluated whether member discounts were built directly into the maintenance agreement workflow or could be configured elsewhere in the software.

### How do automatic discount workflows compare?

**Housecall Pro — Strongest for automatic member discounts:**[Discounts can be configured directly](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/6395181-add-a-service-plan-discount) within each maintenance plan and automatically applied to eligible jobs for covered customers, creating a more seamless connection between membership status and customer pricing.

**FieldPulse — More customizable, but requires additional setup:** Member discounts must be configured separately through [pricing tiers](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/customers/price-tiers) and assigned to individual customer accounts.

Why Housecall Pro is the easiest option for automatic member pricing

What discount evidence supports Housecall Pro?
When configuring maintenance agreements, Housecall Pro has an option to automatically apply discounts to jobs for HVAC service plan customers.
					Pros

										Easiest setup.

					Cons

Less flexible for custom pricing rules than FieldPulse.

Why FieldPulse is the best option for flexible member pricing

					What discount evidence supports FieldPulse?
FieldPulse does not offer the same direct, maintenance-agreement-specific discount setting as Housecall Pro. Instead, users must configure discounts through FieldPulse’s pricing tiers feature and assign the appropriate tier to each customer account. This gives businesses more flexibility to customize pricing, but it requires additional setup and more manual input.
Users can apply pricing adjustments based on an item’s price or cost range, or set a flat percentage markup or discount across all items. Once configured, the adjusted pricing automatically applies to line items on estimates, invoices, and flat-rate jobs.
															Pros

More customizable than out-of-the-box plan discount automation.

					Cons

										Requires more setup and management.

## How does software schedule spring AC and fall furnace tune-ups?

---

HVAC maintenance agreements depend on seasonal follow-through: spring AC tune-ups, fall furnace checks, recurring visits, and appointment windows that work for customers and technicians.

### Test Results

Housecall Pro was faster in our test for straightforward maintenance-visit scheduling because employees could open the plan, scroll to its visits, and select the [schedule icon](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/3075085-schedule-service-plan-visits). FieldPulse took more clicks for plan-level scheduling but offered more operational depth for employees, teams, skill sets, and recurring-job configuration. Choose Housecall Pro for speed; choose FieldPulse when scheduling complexity matters more.

### How do scheduling workflows compare?

**Housecall Pro — Faster for simple scheduling:** Provides a shorter path from the plan to its visits and can suggest times by date range on the same page.

**FieldPulse — Greater scheduling depth:** Requires more clicks for service-agreement visits but provides stronger options for teams, employee skill sets, and detailed recurring-service frequencies.

Why Housecall Pro is faster for seasonal tune-up scheduling

What scheduling evidence supports Housecall Pro?
Our testing found Housecall Pro faster for basic service-plan scheduling, requiring fewer navigation steps. You simply open the plan, scroll to Visits, and use the schedule icon. It can also suggest times by date range on the same page.
					Pros

Fewer clicks for standard maintenance plan visits.

Supports date-range suggestions on the same page.

Good fit for residential seasonal tune-up workflows.

					Cons

Less detailed for teams, employee skill sets, and recurring service frequency than FieldPulse.

Why FieldPulse offers deeper scheduling controls

					What scheduling evidence supports FieldPulse?
When testing, FieldPulse required more clicks to schedule agreement services than Housecall Pro. You have to go to Plan → Services → Edit → Schedule Date/Time, Find Availability, or Find by Map. The trade-off is more control over employees, teams, skill sets, and recurring-service configuration.
					Pros

Stronger options for teams, employees, and skill sets.

More detailed recurring job frequency options than Housecall Pro.

					Cons

More clicks for simple maintenance visit scheduling.

## How does software track HVAC equipment, assets, and system history?

---

HVAC teams need software that can organize equipment records, support linked service and warranty histories, and help employees identify systems that require attention.

### Test Results

FieldPulse is the better fit for HVAC companies that need detailed equipment and system history. Compared with Housecall Pro, it offers deeper [asset tracking](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/work/assets), including custom fields and categories, status tags, service history, warranties, files, forms, photos, and customer-facing documents.

Housecall Pro’s Property Profiles work well for simple residential installations. Technicians can record basic equipment details such as [make, model, serial number](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/3703307-property-profile), installation date, and notes. However, they lack FieldPulse’s more advanced asset management features, including statuses, tags, categories, warranty and condition tracking, custom fields, asset updates, and configurable reports.

The difference becomes particularly noticeable for commercial, multi-location, or multi-tenant properties. Housecall Pro displays Property Profile items as individual blocks on desktop and does not provide sorting options within the customer profile. As the number of equipment records grows, this layout can become difficult to navigate. FieldPulse provides more ways to categorize, filter, and customize assets, making it easier to manage a large equipment inventory.

FieldPulse provides a more complete, connected equipment history. Employees can connect [related services](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/work/assets), document equipment condition and known issues, add photos and files, attach custom forms, and manually log updates. Businesses can also create templates for parts and labor warranty information, including expiration dates, and generate customer-facing documents with these asset details for signatures.

Housecall Pro has an advantage when employees need to identify equipment that has not been serviced recently. Its company-wide asset view can be [sorted by last service date](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/3703307-property-profile). FieldPulse can surface similar information through reporting, but the report must first be configured and may require more setup.

### How We Evaluated

We evaluated the products using the following criteria:

- Can employees create and access equipment records from both desktop and mobile devices?
- Can businesses customize asset categories, fields, statuses, and tags?
- Can employees view linked work, asset updates, condition, issues, and warranty history for each asset?
- Can parts and labor warranty information, including expiration dates, be tracked?
- Can employees document equipment condition, known issues, and manual updates?
- Can photos, manuals, warranty documents, forms, and other files be attached?
- Can businesses efficiently organize and manage a large number of assets?
- Can employees identify equipment that has not been serviced recently?
- Can asset information be turned into customer-facing documents?

### How do the vendors compare?

**FieldPulse — Best for comprehensive asset management:** Provides the most detailed asset records for HVAC teams that manage many units, commercial sites, warranties, photos, forms, and custom equipment fields.

**Housecall Pro — Good for simpler equipment records:** Property Profiles help track installed equipment but become harder to manage at scale.

Why FieldPulse is the best choice for comprehensive HVAC asset management

					What asset-management evidence supports FieldPulse?

FieldPulse provides a significantly more detailed and customizable asset-management system than Housecall Pro.Businesses can use each asset record as a central location for linked equipment information, jobs, updates, files, condition, issues, and warranty data.In addition to recording the equipment type, make, model, serial number, installation date, and notes, employees can assign an asset status, add tags, document the asset’s location, and create custom asset categories. This gives teams more control over how equipment is organized and makes it easier to distinguish active systems from equipment that has been uninstalled or retired.

FieldPulse also provides stronger service-history tracking. Related services can be attached directly to an asset, allowing employees to review work performed on the system beyond maintenance-agreement visits. Technicians can document equipment condition, record known issues, manually log updates, and include photos with those updates.

Warranty management is another major advantage. Businesses can track both parts and labor warranties and their expiration dates. Employees can also attach supporting files, such as equipment photos, manuals, and warranty documents, keeping important information connected to the relevant asset.Custom fields allow businesses to capture information specific to their workflows and control whether that information is visible to managers, service agents, customers, or suppliers.

Custom forms can also be created and attached to assets. When information needs to be shared externally, FieldPulse can generate customer-facing asset documents, collect signatures, and email completed copies.

FieldPulse can also identify equipment that has not been serviced recently, but doing so requires users to configure a report. This provides flexibility but is less immediate than Housecall Pro’s built-in last-service-date sorting.
					Pros

Sets asset statuses such as Uninstalled or Retired.

Tracks asset status, location, condition, and known issues.

Supports tags, custom categories, and workflow-specific custom fields for better organization and filtering.

Connects related services to each asset for a more complete history of customer's system.

Tracks parts and labor warranties, including expiration dates.

Allows employees to log equipment updates with photos.

Provides role-based permissions for selected asset actions.

										Creates and attaches custom forms.

Attaches files such as photos, manuals, and warranty documents.

Generates customer-facing asset documents, collects signatures, and emails completed copies.

Supports commercial, multi-location, and multi-tenant properties more effectively.

										Provides detailed reporting.

					Cons

Identifying equipment that has not been serviced recently requires a custom report.

Why Housecall Pro is the best choice for basic residential Property Profiles

What asset-management evidence supports Housecall Pro?

Housecall Pro uses a simpler Property Profile feature rather than a full-featured asset-management system. The feature is designed primarily around installation and service workflows, giving technicians a simple way to record basic details about equipment at a customer’s property. Each item can include the following information:Item typeDisplay nameMakeModelSerial numberInstallation dateNotes
Based on the official Property Profile equipment fields and our testing, Housecall Pro records are more limited than FieldPulse assets.
However, Housecall Pro does provide a convenient company-wide sorting option that FieldPulse does not offer out of the box. Employees can sort equipment by last service date to quickly find systems that have not been serviced recently. FieldPulse can accomplish this through reporting, but its process requires more configuration.
										Pros

Equipment can be sorted company-wide by last service date.

Provides a simple equipment-record workflow for residential service and installation teams.

					Cons

Limited equipment fields and customization options.

No dedicated parts or labor warranty tracking.

No detailed equipment condition, issue, or update history.

Links equipment to jobs and tracks work performed on specific items, but does not provide FieldPulse’s detailed asset-update fields, condition and issue history, separate warranty reporting, or comparable asset-reporting depth.

No tags, custom asset categories, or role-specific custom fields.

Desktop layout becomes difficult to navigate when a property has many equipment records.

No sorting options for equipment displayed within an individual customer profile.

Less suitable for commercial, multi-tenant, or equipment-heavy properties.

## How does software send pre-season HVAC agreement renewal reminders?

---

HVAC contractors need renewal reminders before cooling and heating seasons so maintenance plans do not lapse before peak demand.

### Test Results

Housecall Pro is better for renewal reminders because it can [notify customers when a service plan is about to expire](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/8124459-service-plan-scheduling-suggestions) and lets them renew and pay online. FieldPulse’s automatic reminders are designed for upcoming maintenance visits, not agreement expiration (although it can be handled through invoicing). Renewals are possible in FieldPulse, but they require more manual setup and internal workflows.

### How do renewal reminder workflows compare?

**Housecall Pro — Best for a simple renewal flow:** Supports automated renewal reminders and straightforward payment follow-through.

**FieldPulse — Strong service-visit reminders, but no comparable documented expiration-reminder flow.**

Why Housecall Pro is stronger for simple renewal reminders

What renewal evidence supports Housecall Pro?
Housecall Pro automatically reminds customers to renew expiring agreements and gives them a dedicated portal to renew and pay online. Businesses can configure reminder timing, but the reminder message itself is not currently customizable.
					Pros

Strong fit for pre-season membership renewal reminders.

Provides a customer renewal and payment flow.

Useful when agreements are a recurring revenue product.

Why FieldPulse is more configurable but less direct for reminders

					What renewal evidence supports FieldPulse?
FieldPulse’s Maintenance Agreement reminder is an upcoming-service reminder. The business can configure its message and choose which internal team members receive a copy. The reviewed documentation does not show a separate automatic reminder triggered by the agreement’s expiration date.
					Pros

Supports configurable customer and internal reminders for upcoming Maintenance Agreement service occurrences.

					Cons

No dedicated documented expiration-renewal reminder comparable to Housecall Pro’s.

A renewal campaign may require saved reports, custom fields, or a separate internal process.

Service-occurrence reminders should not be presented as agreement-expiration reminders.

## How does software report on HVAC agreement revenue, renewals, and sales performance?

---

HVAC owners and managers need to see active plans, recurring revenue, pending renewals, customers without agreements, and which technicians are selling plans.

### Test Results

In our testing, Housecall Pro was the stronger option for quick, plan-specific visibility. Its Service Plans page immediately summarizes [service-plan dashboard metrics](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/2932107-service-plans-dashboard-overview), including active plans, total plan revenue, and agreements pending renewal. It also reports on service plans [sold by employee](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/7068257-service-plan-reporting).

FieldPulse was the stronger option for reporting depth and customization. It provides access to detailed [maintenance-agreement reporting fields](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/raw-data-reporting-tutorials/maintenance-agreement-reports) and supports [custom reporting dashboards](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/custom-reporting-dashboard). This makes it better for businesses that want to analyze agreement performance in greater detail or report on metrics that Housecall Pro does not expose.

However, FieldPulse does not provide the same ready-made plan dashboard as Housecall Pro. The official documentation does show a dedicated [Maintenance Agreement report](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/raw-data-reporting-tutorials/maintenance-agreement-reports), but users may need to configure fields, filters, saved reports, widgets, or dashboard components for their preferred management view. FieldPulse has the stronger reporting foundation, but Housecall Pro presents common service-plan metrics more immediately.

Housecall Pro offers [easy-to-use reports](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/7068257-service-plan-reporting) for tracking maintenance agreements, while FieldPulse provides more detailed data for custom analysis. Housecall Pro is better for a quick overview, but it offers fewer ways to explore the data. In testing, its AI Assistant also gave incorrect results when asked which customers did not have agreements.

Housecall Pro also provided a more streamlined interface for reviewing agreements by status. Users can [filter plans by status](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/2932107-service-plans-dashboard-overview), including Draft, Expiring Soon, Expired, Pending Renewal, Renewed, and Cancelled. FieldPulse provides fewer status filters within its primary maintenance agreement view, and cancelled agreements are displayed in a separate tab.

Overall, Housecall Pro is better for managers who want immediate visibility into common service-plan metrics and employee service-plan sales. FieldPulse is better for businesses that want deeper maintenance-agreement fields, custom reporting, dashboard configuration, and greater long-term reporting flexibility.repo

### How We Evaluated

We evaluated the products using the following criteria:

- Can owners and managers quickly see how many maintenance agreements are active?
- Can users view total maintenance agreement revenue or recurring revenue?
- Can employees identify agreements that are pending renewal, approaching expiration, or already expired?
- Can managers generate an accurate list of customers who do not have maintenance agreements?
- Can managers track how many maintenance agreements each technician has sold?

### How do revenue and reporting workflows compare?

**Housecall Pro — Best for immediate service-plan visibility:** The Service Plans page provides [ready-made metrics](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/2932107-service-plans-dashboard-overview) for active plans, plan revenue, and pending renewals. [Service-plan reporting](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/7068257-service-plan-reporting) includes the “Service Plans Sold by Employee” metric, while status filters make it easier to find agreements that require attention. However, Housecall Pro exposes less reporting data than FieldPulse, and its AI Assistant was unreliable when identifying customers without agreements.

**FieldPulse — Best for detailed and customizable reporting:** FieldPulse provides more [maintenance-agreement reporting fields](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/raw-data-reporting-tutorials/maintenance-agreement-reports) and stronger tools for building saved reports and [custom dashboards](https://help.fieldpulse.com/using-fieldpulse/reporting/custom-reporting-dashboard). It is better suited to businesses that need detailed analysis or want to identify customers without agreements. However, users must configure maintenance-agreement-specific dashboard views instead of receiving them out of the box.

Why Housecall Pro is the best choice for out-of-the-box service-plan visibility

What reporting evidence supports Housecall Pro?

Housecall Pro gives HVAC owners and managers a quick overview of their maintenance agreement program without requiring them to build reports. The Service Plans page includes summary widgets showing information such as the number of active plans, total plan revenue, and agreements pending renewal. This makes Housecall Pro particularly useful for managers who want to check the general health of their service-plan program quickly. Common metrics are already calculated and displayed in a readable format rather than requiring users to work directly with raw agreement data.

Housecall Pro also makes it easier to track which employees are selling maintenance agreements. Official documentation identifies a “Service Plans Sold by Employee” metric in service-plan reporting; in our testing, we reviewed this metric in a technician-performance view. This provides a straightforward way to compare sales performance and identify technicians who may need additional training or support.

The service agreement interface also includes useful status filters. Plans can be filtered by Draft, Expiring Soon, Expired, Pending Renewal, Renewed, and Cancelled. These filters help office employees focus on agreements that require follow-up instead of manually reviewing the entire plan list.

However, Housecall Pro provides significantly less reporting data than FieldPulse. Its preset views are convenient, but businesses have fewer options for analyzing maintenance agreement performance using custom fields, raw data, pivot charts, or highly tailored reports. Housecall Pro is also weaker at identifying customers who do not currently have maintenance agreements and routing those customers to office administrators, marketing, or sales.

Some tools were also unreliable. During testing, Housecall Pro’s AI Assistant returned inaccurate results when asked for a list of customers without agreements. Because the response did not accurately reflect customer plan status, managers should not rely on the assistant when creating prospecting or outreach lists.
					Pros

Better for managers who want quick plan visibility.

Provides ready-made widgets for active plans, revenue, and pending renewals.

Requires no custom reporting to view common service-plan metrics.

Makes it easy to add the “Service Plans Sold by Employee” metric to the Tech Performance report.

Includes filters for Draft, Expiring Soon, Expired, Pending Renewal, Renewed, and Cancelled plans.

					Cons

Has significantly less reporting data overall.

Provides less service-plan-specific field depth than FieldPulse, although supported reports allow drill-down and export of the underlying records.

Supports custom and saved reports, but offers fewer documented maintenance-agreement-specific fields than FieldPulse.

Does not document spreadsheet-style pivot tables; supports grouping, editable metrics and columns, drill-downs, graphs, and exports.

The AI Assistant returned inaccurate agreement information during testing.

Less suitable for highly customized membership reporting.

Why FieldPulse is the best choice for detailed maintenance-agreement reporting

					What reporting evidence supports FieldPulse?

FieldPulse provides more detailed maintenance agreement data and greater reporting flexibility than Housecall Pro. Managers can use the available data to create custom reports, save widgets, and configure custom dashboards based on the specific metrics their business wants to track. This makes FieldPulse better for answering detailed operational and sales questions. Businesses can identify customers without agreements, analyze plans using custom criteria, and organize performance data around their own workflows.

FieldPulse is also more scalable for businesses whose reporting requirements may become more sophisticated. Users are not limited to the small set of predefined service-plan metrics displayed by Housecall Pro and can build reports using more of the underlying agreement data.FieldPulse does not provide the same ready-made service-plan dashboard as Housecall Pro. Although its documentation describes prebuilt maintenance-agreement reports, they were not available in the paid account we tested and may require assistance from FieldPulse support to enable. Users can still configure reports or dashboard components to track active agreements, recurring revenue, pending renewals, and employee sales.Tracking technician maintenance agreement sales is less straightforward in FieldPulse than in Housecall Pro. FieldPulse can report on employee sales, but users must create a report for it.FieldPulse also provides fewer agreement-status filters in its primary interface. It does not offer the same filtering options for Draft, Expiring Soon, Expired, Pending Renewal, and Renewed plans. Cancelled maintenance agreements are displayed in a separate tab rather than included as a filter in the main agreement list.
										Pros

Provides more underlying maintenance agreement data.

Better long-term fit for complex HVAC operations because of its reporting flexibility and scalability.

Supports highly configurable reports and more granular analysis.

Allows users to build pivot-style charts and customized analyses.

Can identify customers without maintenance agreements.

					Cons

Does not include prebuilt maintenance-agreement reports.

										Does not provide a ready-made service-plan dashboard.

Active-plan, revenue, and renewal metrics must be configured.

Provides fewer agreement-status filters in the primary interface.

## How does software show HVAC agreement status to technicians in the field?

---

Technicians need to know whether a customer has a maintenance agreement, which benefits apply, which tune-ups are included, and what equipment history matters while they are on-site.

### Test Results

Housecall Pro is stronger for fast membership-status visibility because the customer profile shows service-plan information more directly. FieldPulse is stronger for mobile operations and deeper equipment context, but our testing showed that agreement status can be easy to miss on mobile unless the section is pinned or custom fields are used.

## HVAC Service Agreement Software FAQs

---

What is an HVAC service agreement?

An HVAC service agreement is a formal contract between a customer and an HVAC company for scheduled preventive maintenance, usually paid annually or monthly. Many residential plans include two tune-ups per year, commonly before the cooling and heating seasons, and may include reminders, repair discounts, and priority service. HVAC service agreement software helps contractors sell and manage these contracts.

What is included in a standard HVAC service agreement?

Standard HVAC service agreements typically identify the customer and contractor, covered equipment, service frequency, maintenance tasks, payment terms, exclusions, renewal and cancellation terms, and notice requirements.

What is covered in HVAC maintenance agreements?

Coverage varies by company, but it commonly includes inspection, testing, cleaning, adjustment, filter replacement, coil cleaning, motor or belt lubrication, and written service recommendations after each visit.

What is the difference between a maintenance agreement, service agreement, and membership plan?

HVAC companies often use these terms interchangeably.Service agreement is a broad term for a customer contract that may include preventive maintenance, discounts, priority service, or other benefits for a defined period.Maintenance agreement usually emphasizes scheduled preventive care, such as seasonal tune-ups, system inspections, calibration, condensate-line clearing, and coil cleaning.Membership plan often emphasizes additional perks, such as priority service and discounts on repairs or equipment replacement. Some HVAC companies use “membership” to signal that the plan includes more than routine preventive maintenance.

How do HVAC companies track maintenance contracts with software?

HVAC field-service platforms differ, but contractors typically track maintenance agreements by attaching each agreement to the customer profile, recording its status and benefits, scheduling recurring visits, and monitoring renewals and payments.

How do you use scheduling software for HVAC maintenance contracts?

To schedule HVAC maintenance contracts, create the included recurring visits, assign the appropriate season or date window, select the covered equipment, and route the work to a qualified technician or team. Strong software also helps staff find availability, send reminders, and reschedule visits without losing the connection to the agreement.

How do you sell HVAC service agreements?

Selling HVAC service agreements depends on the business’s workflow. Office administrators or sales staff may contact customers and leads, while field technicians may present plans during service visits. Effective software should support both approaches with clear plan presentations, mobile agreement visibility, customer acceptance, add-ons, and follow-up reporting.

How do you set up HVAC service agreements?

Start by defining plan tiers, such as basic, standard, and premium. For each tier, specify visit frequency, covered equipment, included tasks, customer perks, discounts, exclusions, renewal terms, billing method, and cancellation policy. Then load those plan templates into your HVAC software so your team can sell, schedule, renew, and bill agreements consistently.
